New Zealand
Taking friends from overseas on a classic kiwi road trip around the North Island was so much fun. I’ve travelled a lot in my time but this was my first time seeing New Zealand from a tourist’s point of view. We went to Hobbiton, Waitomo Caves, Rotorua and the Coromandel on our road trip, amongst others.
The best views are always worth the hard work. The hike to the Duke’s Nose lookout is one of those walks that you must do. The journey is almost as good as the destination.
Hiking The Pinnacles is definitely a great day trip! Several hours to the summit, the views are spectacular and I would highly recommend everyone try it.
After running away from the New Zealand winter these last few years I brushed the dust off my snowboarding gear and headed to Mt Ruapehu. I’ve written about my recent 2 trips and added in some advice for anyone wanting to give it a go.
It’s time to support local! 2020 hasn’t been anyone’s year it seems, but some good can come from it and I think already we’ve seen a huge movement towards supporting local businesses. Here’s why we should all be heading in that direction…
Great Barrier Island is easily one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand! Whether you get there by ferry or by plane, it’s far away enough to keep away the waves of tourists that are now hitting our beaches, but still close enough for a spectacular long weekend away.
EUROPE
I spent a glorious two months in the Algarve region of Portugal! I was staying in a surf hostel in Sagres and enjoyed being in the sun and surfing most days.
It’s been a whole year (and some) since I left home! Here’s how I travelled Europe solo all this time.
Bergen is a great destination in Northern Europe for a quick getaway. A funky city with access to mountains and fjords, it offers a great taste of Norway.
I know we are in March now, but I really wanted to get out a highlights post from 2018 now that I have some free time!
I took a short trip to Helsinki and from there took a ferry across to Tallinn, both of which were incredibly lovely cities! Find out what I got up to in each destination.
Having no expectations for a place is a really good way to travel, and I was pleasantly wowed by the Iberian Peninsula! Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar were a treat, each in their own way….
4 months, 13 countries, 23 cities, 10 flights, 19 long bus rides, countless train and metros and one happy traveller. Here’s what I loved (and didn’t love) from my 2018 Europe trip!
I was lucky enough to visit the Greek Islands with Topdeck thanks to Flight Centre NZ. It was a fantastic way to see the stunning islands while meeting great new people.
My new rule is that if it’s even close to the same price to stop over somewhere on your way to a new destination, definitely do that! I decided to visit Budapest for 2 nights between Greece and Croatia, rather than flying direct, and it was well worth the detour.
Iceland truly is the land of ice and fire, with some of the most dramatic and picturesque scenery you’ll see on this planet.
